It all began on the Rue de la Paix
Cartier is one of the most famous jewelry manufacturers in the world and has secured a long tradition of quality. Merely the characteristic red packaging in itself conveys the promise of a special surprise waiting within.
The beginnings of Cartier can be traced back to 1874, when master goldsmith Louis-François Cartier founded the Maison Cartier in Paris, which was followed by a move to a prestigious Paris address, the Rue de la Paix, from where they went on to dominate the international market.
The founder’s grandchildren, Pierre and Louis, travelled to Russia in 1904 and succeeded in winning over the Tsar and his family as loyal customers, along with large segments of the aristocracy.
In 1909, successful branches opened for business on New Bond Street in London and also in New York City, where an illustrious clientele leapt at the opportunity to acquire the elegant creations of the French jeweler. The success story of Cartier seems far from over and the brand continues to flourish by combining the utmost in stylish goldsmithing craftsmanship with timeless beauty.
